📖 About Trimbakeshwar Temple

Trimbakeshwar (त्र्यंबकेश्वर) is a sacred town located about 36 km from Nashik, Maharashtra. It is renowned for the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is also the source of the holy Godavari River, making it a site of immense spiritual significance.

According to legend, the sage Gautam Rishi performed intense penance on the Brahmagiri Hill to please Lord Shiva. Pleased with his devotion, Shiva blessed him and brought the sacred rivers — Ganga, Gautami, and Godavari — down to earth from heaven. The temple was built by Mr. Odhekar, a knight serving under the Peshwas.
